Banana Fiber

Banana makes a wonderful luxury fiber that's produced from the stalks of the banana plant. It's white or off-white with a texture that's slightly stiffer than bamboo. And it's wonderful for spinning, blending, and can even take dyes. The production process begins by feeding the stalks into a machine much like a rolling mill; this crushes the stalks and breaks apart the individual fibers. After being fed through this machine several times, the fiber's hung to dry before being made into roving or spun into thread. Check out this video to see how it's done..
